Overview
Erikson’s teacher education program—among the first in Illinois to be approved under the standards-based reform effort—prepares you to teach young children from birth through third grade and receive Type 04 certification from the Illinois State Board of Education.
The program sets a high standard, presenting the latest scientific findings and theories in child development while engaging teacher candidates in critical and reflective thinking about their role and impact on the lives of young children and their families. As a teacher candidate, you take a combination of courses in child development and early childhood education, plus teacher preparation courses and methods seminars that meet the state’s certification requirements. You can choose to complete the program over two or three years.
