Overview
Whether urban or rural, American schools serve an increasingly diverse student body. If you want to increase your effectiveness in a multicultural, multilingual early childhood classroom, Erikson's Bilingual/ESL Certificate Program is designed for you.
This program prepares teachers from a range of settings—preschools, early child care programs, and public or private schools—to seek either bilingual and/or ESL approval by the State of Illinois Board of Education and to work in a bilingual early childhood education program.
In this program you’ll learn
- the role of family and culture in the classroom;
- theoretical frameworks and research findings that reveal how young children learn a new language;
- methods and techniques to improve your ability to assess, reach, and teach young learners from diverse cultural and language backgrounds.
Bilingual approval
This program enables certified early childhood teachers to seek the bilingual and/or ESL approval from the Illinois State Board of Education.
Program director: Luisiana Meléndez, Ph.D.
